“The goal is, together, to ensure the protection of citizens” – Joanne Labadie

The Municipality of Pontiac, along with the various services ensuring the protection of citizens in the municipality, held a press conference yesterday morning at 10 am at the community center in the Luskville sector of the Municipality of Pontiac. The Mayor, Joanne Labadie, first extended her sympathies to the family of Louise Séguin-Lortie who tragically lost her life on Saturday night in the municipality due of the floods. Labadie highlighted the commitment Séguin-Lortie in her community for her hard work volunteering. During the scrum, the fire department and the public safety of the MRC des Collines de l’Outaouais reminded residents to remain vigilant:

According to information from the Municipality of Pontiac, 300 houses are currently at risk of being flooded and another hundred could also be affected in the coming days. Above all, it has been pointed out that flooding can have an impact on the fragility of roads. In particular, the Fire department added that they are ready to evacuate the affected residents. It was also mentioned that despite the positive forecasts in the coming day, a second flood like the one that occurred in May 2017 is not out of the question. For the moment, the Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board anticipates that water levels will reach its peak around April 27th. The press conference concluded by saying that the various public security services are working hard to ensure the protection of citizens.
