The Sûreté du Québec released provisional data from its 2019 road report, which turns out to be the “best year of the decade.” The number of fatal collisions had decreased from 237 to 216 collisions between 2018 and 2019. A decrease in the number of deaths for the same period, going from 252 deaths in 2018 to 232 in 2019 was also observed. In 2010, the number of deaths due to accidents in Quebec amounted to more than 340 victims.

However, although fatal collisions and those with seriously injured, are declining, the behavior of road users continues to be worrisome. Despite police interventions and awareness campaigns, the Sûreté du Québec deplores certain risky behaviors: excessive speed; drinking and driving; distracted driving; failure to wear a seat belt.
