4 March 2021 à 12:00 am

In its annual publication intended for residents of Litchfield, the municipality devoted part of its information disseminated to local taxpayers about the Bioparc project. The municipality of Litchfield mentions that feasibility studies are underway concerning this project and that the municipality hopes that it can see the light of day at the Regional Industrial Park which formerly housed the Smurfit-Stone plant.

The aim of the study is to assess the economic viability of the environmental performance of an industrial park as well as to analyze the scenario for the sustainability of the industrial park. According to the Municipality of Litchfield, four of the seven scenarios have been completed and again according to the municipality, the results are positive. The municipality mentions that the biopark would be composed of a biorefinery as well as other production units or companies that would transform low-quality biomass into energy pellets through a cogeneration idea. The Municipality of Litchfield insists that the Renmatix company has expressed an interest which is qualified as serious for the Regional Industrial Park in order to establish its biorefinery there.

According to the municipality, Litchfield would be well positioned due to the abundance of the forest resource, access to water and the availability of high voltage electricity.

On several occasions in recent weeks, the mayor of Litchfield, Colleen Larivière, insisted that the Bioparc project could be among the priorities of the MRC. According to the municipality, the federal and provincial governments support the project. No timetable for the completion of the project is included in this communication, but the municipality indicates that a timber concentration yard, managed by Forespect, is currently in operation on the site.
