The MRC has plans to ask the Quebec government to get a “special consideration” as a forestry depressed area, in order to revive the forest industry in the region. According to Warden Jane Toller, being recognized as such will open the door to more funds and opportunities.

At the most recent regional council meeting, the mayor of Mansfield-et-Pontefract, Gilles Dionne, tabled a motion to suspend forestry activity, to obtain the requested status . He hopes to respond to a problem raised by several citizens concerning the exploitation of logs in the region:

The Warden of the MRC, Jane Toller does not completely agree with Mansfield’s request to postpone forestry activity.

Jane Toller noted that the MRC is currently working on a forestry strategy, which would include the establishment of a forestry school.
