The MRC Pontiac is asking the Quebec government to “honor its commitments” by granting the monetary amounts promised under the Local Road Infrastructure Response Plans (PIIRL), which was established in 2016 by the Ministère du Transport du Québec (MTQ). The Director General of the MRC Pontiac, Bernard Roy.

“After several years of developing the plan and after the plan was approved by the MTQ, there are no longer any funds to cover the cost of work that is beyond the municipalities’ reach.» Council in Brief, MRC Pontiac.

In 2016, the Government of Quebec encouraged municipalities in the various territories to take charge of their five-year planning for the maintenance of the unnumbered road network, which is intended for inter-municipal transit. In return, the MTQ undertook financing a high proportion of the cost of the planned work.

According to the Warden MRC Pontiac, Jane Toller, this unavailability of funds would be due to the change in government last fall.

« We are not taking that “no” for an answer » – Jane Toller

On that, Bernard Roy said that other regional county municipalities (MRC) in Quebec have also passed similar resolutions in order to benefit from the amounts promised to be able to carry out their plans.

The full interview with Bernard Roy is available here and a report on Wednesday’s meeting will be available soon.
