During the most recent meeting of the Mayors of the MRC Pontiac on November 27th, the Regional Council adopted a resolution pertaining to the mandate of the Committee at the MRC Pontiac for the creation of a National Park for the Iles Lafontaine located in the municipality of l’Ile-du-Grand-Calumet.

It was resolved, during the meeting, that the mandate of this committee would begin with the evaluation of the feasibility of a national park project for the Iles Lafontaine. Along with collaboration with Pontiac stakeholders and community members.

This resolution comes as a result of the Extraordinary General Meeting of the Mayors of the MRC Pontiac on October 2nd, 2019. Where it was revealed by CHIP 101.9 prior to the meeting that the mayor of the municipality of the l’Ile-du-Grand-Calumet, Serge Newberry, owned two islands located on the edge of the proposed National Park Project Site (Iles Lafontaines).
