A meeting was held at the Maison du Citoyen in Gatineau, yesterday (Sunday, November 18th, 2018) concerning Chalk River’s nuclear waste deposit site.

According to the organizers, the objective of this meeting was to inform the public of what could be done to protect the river. During this bilingual meeting, which was broadcasted on Radio-Canada, a series of questions were asked on the impact of such a project on the environment.

The federal government has put forward a project to build storage facility to be able to store more than one million cubic meters of low-level radioactive waste in the center of a swamp that drains into the Ottawa River. The project is estimated at more than $800 million.
