The public works department of the Municipality of Pontiac started its annual road inspections in anticipation of the spring melt, which presents certain difficulties for cars during this period. Road repair work will be carried out as soon as conditions allow.

The Assistant Director General of the municipality of Pontiac, Geneviève Latulippe, explained that levelling the roads in their current state could worsen the situation, by turning it into mud while risking blocking the road.

In a notice issued to residents on Monday, the municipality said the public works team is monitoring the weather to plan the work needed. For levelling to be effective, it takes several days of sun to dry the road. The heavy rain coming in the next few hours along with the current thawing will have an impact on the road network and on the roads most vulnerable to these weather events.

Motorists are advised to reduce their speed to avoid a premature deterioration of the roads, as well as damaging their vehicles. In the event of a major road failure or to obtain more information, citizens are invited to contact the Municipality of Pontiac at 819-455-2401. The full interview in French with Geneviève Latulippe is available here.
