Yesterday morning employees of the 404 branches of the Société des alcools du Quebec (SAQ) closed their doors to the public around 10 am for a one-day strike. A few employees at the Mansfield branch were demonstrating in front of the SAQ Building, with the buildings windows covered with messages.

This first day of service interruption occurred after two rounds of negotiations, which took place on July 12 and 13, according to the statement issued by the Union of Employees of Stores and Offices of the SAQ (SEMB-SAQ).

SAQ employees have not had a collective agreement since March 31, 2017. Last June, after 16 months of bargaining, union members voted 91% for a six-day strike. Improving work-family-education balance and reducing job insecurity are the union members main priorities.
