The Mayor of l’Ile-du-Grand-Calumet, Serge Newberry, said he would like the MRC to introduce a new policy to better guide the work of committees created by the council of mayors. At the most recent MRC Pontiac meeting, on Wednesday, Mayor Newberry made the request following a vote on the resolution concerning the PPJ Committee. “We got recommendations from the committee, but no information,” said Newberry to CHIP 101.9.

”There must be a report, a policy, saying that the committee has decided on one thing and why.” Mayor Newberry added said that he has integrated this type of document in Ile-du-Grand-Calumet a few months ago. “Normally, it would take a document to manage the structure and functioning of a committee,” he added. For example, saying that mandates are always given by the council itself or that the members of the council are re-elected every four years. There are lots of rules which can ensure that a committee works for the council of mayors.

Serge Newberry mentioned that the MRC Pontiac was working on creating its own policy, but that the file seems to have been set aside.
