With the return of good weather and start of spring cleaning, the Municipality of Pontiac has posted a message on its Facebook page from the Pontiac Fire Safety System (SSI), to remind us of some regulations and advice. It states among others things that;
• The risk of a fire increases in April and May, as many small amounts of combustible elements are on ground. In addition, the lush greenery has not yet grown. This dry soil contributes to a fire spreading out of control.
• The Environment Quality Act prohibits the burning of residual materials in the open.
• you are allowed to burn branches and trees when conditions permit (wind less than 20km / h). A municipal permit is however necessary.
• It is suggested that wood and grass debris be removed by composting and shredding rather than burning. You can also dispose of these materials at the ecocentre, by appointment.

For further advice, the SSI Pontiac invites residents to consult a fact sheet created by the Public Security of Quebec.
