The Sûreté du Québec are informing the public that they will be increasing their presence on Pontiac’s roads, as well as waterways and offroad trails, as the contruction holidays begin. The construction holidays are a time of year when the number of fatal and serious accidents are highest. During this period last year, eight people died in collisions on territory served by the SQ. Around a third of the population takes their holidays during this period, which greatly increases the amount of traffic on provincial roadways. This year, due pandemic travel restrictions, there is expected to be an even greater increase, as most Quebecers will be vacationing within the province.

For this reason, the police have decided to increase their presence on roadways, but also on bodies of water and trail systems to ensure citizens comply with the rules. They stress that helmets are mandatory on off-road vehicles and wearing a personal flotation devices is strongly encouraged on watercraft. The SQ say that they invite the population to responsibly enjoy their favorite recreation activities to ensure a safe and memorable vacation for all.
