The Forest Fire Protection group Société de protection des forêts contre le feu (SOPFEU), in collaboration with the Department of Forests, Wildlife and Parks, announced in a statement that additional resources were sent to British Columbia.

Two new firefighter divisions will fight the wild fires that are currently raging in the west most province. These resources will replace the 43 firefighters from Quebec deployed since July 18, whose return is scheduled for Thursday.

According to SOPFEU’s July report, 72 fires afflicted forests in the Intensive Protection Zone, particularly in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Côte-Nord and Saguenay-Lac Saint-Jean regions. 80% of the cases where caused by humans.

SOPFEU reminds everyone to be careful with the use of fire during outdoor activities, especially with the warm temperatures expected in early August.
