26 March 2020 à 12:00 am

The Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) reported their first confirmed case of COVID-19 within the Renfrew County, a 90-year-old woman who lives in a retirement home.

According to the information obtained, she has not traveled recently. The woman is currently hospitalized at Pembroke Regional Hospital (PRH), where she was tested on March 23rd after developing symptoms associated with COVID-19.

All the necessary precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of the patient, the public and health care workers confirmed.

The RCDHU stated that a study of identification to know the source of the spread is currently in progress, in particular within the hospital and retirement home. Those affected will receive specific instructions to self-isolate and self-monitor their symptoms.

“We know that confirmed cases represent only a fraction of disease activity in the community. For every 1 confirmed case there are probably 10 cases out in the community and quite possibly 100. The message is clear. COVID-19 is in Eastern Ontario and in Renfrew County,” says Dr. Robert Cushman, Acting Medical Officer of Health, Renfrew County and District Health Unit.

People with symptoms associated with COVID-19 or who have been in contact with someone who are experiencing symptoms should follow the measures recommended by the health services corresponding to their region and their province. In Ontario, TeleHealth Ontario service is available at 1-866-797-0000. To reach the Renfrew County and District Health Unit, you can call 613-735-8654.
