Remembering Bryan Murray

17 August 2017 à 12:00 am

Tributes have been pouring through the National Hockey League due to the passing of Shawville native Bryan Murray last Saturday. The former head coach of the NHL and general manager of the Ottawa Senators, died at the age of 74.

Murray was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer in 2014. Bryan Murray began his career as head coach in the 1981-82 season with the Washington Capitals. He had guided the Ottawa Senators to the Stanley Cup final as coach in 2006-07.

Murray won the 1984 Jack Adams Trophy for the NHL’s head coach of the year. He was named general manager of the year in 1996, while his young Panthers caused a big surprise by going to the Stanley Cup final.

The MNA for Pontiac André Fortin commented on Facebook page that ” Bryan Murray always remained one of the greatest ambassadors for Shawville and the Pontiac. He will be missed by many across our region.”

This afternoon at the Pontiac Drive home show, our host Eric O’Brien will meet with one of Bryan Murray’s brothers, Barry, to reminisce about his brother’s life and his long career in the national hockey league.
