Québec will present a plan to restart schools and economy

The Quebec government announced that it will be tabling on a plan to reopen schools and to restart the economy next week.

In the daily press briefing, Premier François Legault made a point of reassuring parents that the gradual return of schools will not be a mandatory obligation.

“The plan to reopen the schools will be done gradually. We want to start with regions less affected by COVID-19 or where the situation is stable,” said Mr. Legault, who also said that everything should be done in accordance with Public Health recommendations, to avoid a further rise in contagion.

Aside from the Montreal and Laval regions, which alone account for almost 75% of deaths and a large majority of the outbreak within the province, the Premier specified that the situation is, for the most part, stable is most other regions.

Restarting the economy
As with the reopening schools, it will take a few more days before the government can announce the ins and outs of the economic recovery.

“Here again, the gradual plan is prepared with the Public Health authorities, said François Legault. We will be reopening businesses with a lot of caution. We don’t want to act too rapidly with re-openings, “he added.

Quebec now has 20,965 confirmed cases of people with COVID-19, an increase of 839 over the last 24 hours. The death toll stands at 1,134 in the province. The Outaouais has now confirmed 219 cases, less than 5 of which are in the MRC Pontiac.
