Québec adds control points in the Outaouais Region

1 April 2020 à 12:00 am

Quebec will add additional checkpoints around the Outaouais region, to limit non-essential movement between sectors.

“This is an important step in providing better protection for the Pontiac against non-essential travel. We are grateful to the Premier for making this decision. We also appreciate the collaboration within the Conférence des Préfets de l’Outaouais (CPO) and the Minister, Mathieu Lacombe. We are now in a much better position to fight this virus,” said Warden of the MRC Pontiac Jane Toller.

Controlling entry and exit will prevent travel to certain more vulnerable regions and will limit the risk of the virus spreading. Travel must be limited to those related to medical reasons and work, in a context where working from home is not possible. By limiting entry and exit, public health authorities believe that they can further limit and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The Sûreté du Québec will work in collaboration with the Police Department of the Ville de Gatineau and the Public Security Service of the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais in order to put in place common measures to limit movements that will be controlled by police. Details of where the checkpoints will be located are still unknown.
