The Sûreté du Québec issued the results of their Province wide Holiday Operation under the name ’’Alcool ou drogue au volant, c’est criminel !’’ between November 28th, 2019 and January 2nd, 2020. During this time, in the Outaouais-Laurentides, the Sûreté arrested 56 impaired drivers, which compares to 82 in 2018, and registered 2 fatal collisions, the same as in 2018.

Details on the citations handed out:

  • Speed : 2403
  • Seat belt : 51
  • Distracted driving (Cell) : 57
  • Zero Tolerance : 6

Although the holiday season has ended, the Sûreté du Québec is reminding drivers that police operations to prevent impaired driving will continue throughout the year. As a reminder, patrol officers can stop any motorist in order to detect impaired driving. In addition, mandatory testing is in place, which allows police to obligate a driver to provide a roadside breath sample, whether or not they have been suspected of being impaired.
