Quebec asks Ottawa for 1, 000 army soldiers as reinforcements
In the daily press briefing, the Premier of Quebec, François Legault, reiterated that the challenge of this COVID-19 crisis remains the shortage of staff in seniors’ residences.

The Quebec government has asked Ottawa to provide 1,000 soldiers to lend a hand in seniors homes. The Premier clarified that 350 specialist doctors agreed to work in establishments where the needs are greatest, which he says is insufficient to make up for the shortage of 2,000 employees.

“The greatest challenge remains to fill the staff shortage in the seniors residences, said François Legault. We were missing 2,000 people. Yesterday I told you that we found 1,000 people. We expected to find the other 1,000 people quickly, but unfortunately that was not the case. So today, we asked for 1,000 soldiers to come and help us.”

Quebec now has 20,965 confirmed cases of people with COVID-19, an increase of 839 over the last 24 hours. The death toll stands at 1,134 in the province. The Outaouais has now confirmed 219 cases, less than 5 of which are in the MRC Pontiac.
