At the most recent meeting of the mayors of the MRC Pontiac, Warden Jane Toller said she recently met with James Gibson, mayor of Rapides-des-Joachims, and the forester Alain Trudel, about the possibility of reopening of the sawmill. She pointed out that the sawmill pays logging fees and sends someone to the plant site daily for general maintenance.

Last May, in an interview with CHIP 101,9, the owner of the Rapides-des-Joachims sawmill and Commonwealth Plywood President William T. Caine said he hoped to see the mill reopen one day, given its location and its potential in both human and material resources.
