2 October 2018 à 12:00 am

Canada and the United States concluded negotiations on the renewal of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) on Sunday night, one of the elements agreed upon in this agreement involves the Canadian dairy sector. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau agreed to give our American neighbor better access to the Canadian dairy market, a decision that was not very welcomed among local producers. The president of the Union des producteurs de lait for the Outaouais-Laurentides region, Yvan Bastien, explains:

According to Mr. Bastien, this new agreement will led to significant losses in the dairy sector across the country, including the Pontiac.

It should be noted that the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) will now be known as the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The complete interview with the president of the Union des producteurs de lait for the Outaouais-Laurentides region, Yvan Bastien, is available here.
