The Municipality of Pontiac says it has received over 400 emails from residents affected by the Special planning Zone (SPZ). In a communication published via its website and social media, the municipality said it forwarded suggestions for changes to the delimitation directly to the Ministère des Affaires Municipales et de l’Habitation (MAMH) on August 19th. The report submitted was based in particular on the comments received by citizens.

It should be noted that the SPZ was introduced by the Quebec government to limit construction and renovation in flood zones that were affected in 2017 and 2019. The Municipality of Pontiac now says it is waiting for the MAMH’s decision to determine whether or not other areas can be removed from the SPZ.

The municipalities affected had until August 19th to submit to the Quebec government their requests for adjustment and their comments on the boundaries of the territory concerned.
