Following the announcement of the passing of former Campbell’s Bay Mayor Cletus Ferrigan on April 14, CHIP 101.9 spoke with current Mayor Maurice Beauregard to pay homage to the well-known and very active member of the town.

“There’s not an event that went on in the Pontiac that Cletus Ferrigan did not have his nose in, right down to our local kids playing hockey in the arenas, he knew them all by name, so I think it’s important to say we’re going to miss Cletus,” Beauregard said. “It’s too bad to lose him, but we’d like to acknowledge that we lost a community builder right here in Campbell’s Bay.”

Ferrigan’s obituary can be found here. It notes that he was a dedicated union man who worked for 42 years at Smurfit-Stone Consolidated until the mill closed in 2008.

Anyone wishing to make a donation is asked to make it out to the Municipality of Campbell’s Bay – Playground Expansion Project, 59 rue Leslie, Campbell’s Bay, Quebec J0X 1K0.

“Anybody that knows Cletus knew that Campbell’s Bay was first [in] his heart, next to his family and his grandkids, so it does not surprise me that even on his dying day Cletus was raising money for Campbell’s Bay,” Beauregard said.
