The logging company Lauzon agreed to pay for the damage cause on Ch. de La Chute in the municipality of Mansfield by their logging trucks on Thursday and Friday of last week.

According to the municipality, last week, a week before the government appointed Harmonization Agreement (the spring defrosting period) comes into effect on March 25th, due to the warm weather, the log trucks circulating on Ch. La Chute caused certain damages to culverts and to the road itself. The company has since agreed to pay for the reconstruction of the road which is set to take place in June. Until then, the municipality will maintain the road which will also be compensated by Lauzon.

The municipality also wanted to inform the public that they’re working on getting their municipal roads back up to standards as quick as possible with priority on the chemin du Grand Marais. This, all depending on the weather during the next few weeks.

During the defrosting period, logging company across Quebec have to respect a harmonization agreement issued by the ministry of Transportation under Le Règlementsur lesnormesdechargeset dedimensions applicables aux véhiculesroutierset aux ensembles devéhiculesroutiers Act,which states that, for Spring, heavy vehicles have to significantly reduce their load size as to prevent damages to roadways.
