Measures to be taken in case of floods to ensure the safety of the public are the responsibilities of the municipalities, the MRC Pontiac plans to quickly put in place an action plan to guide the municipalities during the spring floods.

It plans to establish, in the next two years, a map of the Ottawa River, the Coulonge River and the Black River were the river mouths are most at risk of flooding, to better create floodplains in the MRC.

This was announced at the Council of Mayors meeting last week by Régent Dugas, the territorial director of the MRC:

Within two years, this agreement would allow municipalities to include new measures to add to those already in place. As Regent Dugas explains, the resolution has been proposed by the Pontiac MRC, which has mandating Warden Jane Toller and Director General Bernard Roy to work towards a joint agreement:

The purpose of signing the joint agreement will be to protect the rivers of the MRC Pontiac during annual spring snowmelt within two years. In the meantime, the new floodplain mapping will be created to guide municipalities in their decision-making.
