In an open letter sent to the media the MRC Pontiac Warden, Jane Toller explains why in her opinion a swimming pool is needed in the Pontiac.

She says that as the Pontiac is attracting more and more businesses and investors, we need to build the infrastructure and amenities needed for the growing population to live in the area. Mme Toller also says that it is important to improve the quality of life for people who are already living here. She says there are no other facilities that can improve health and well-being like an Aquatic Center.

She explains that Fort-Coulonge Municipal Council has approved the sale of 1.92 acres of land next to the arena to build the Aquatic Center. The architectural plan includes a swimming pool 25 meters long and 4 rows wide for fitness and competitive swimming, a large heated therapeutic pool to learn to swim and a spa or whirlpool that can accommodate up to 15 people. There will also be changing rooms and showers for women, men and families. A multi-purpose room can be used for learning or to be rented out.

She gave an example of a similar project in Minganie (Havre St-Pierre) which has a population of 6,500 that’s less than half the population of the MRC Pontiac, have successfully opened a $ 14 million Aquatic Center.

She invites citizens who want to get involved in the project, to contact her at the following address: prefete@mrcpontiac.qc.ca
