Last night a public information meeting about the Les viandes du Pontiac slaughterhouse was held with a hundred people in attendance. At the meeting concerns were addressed to avoid false information from spreading. The owners of the Slaughterhouse and the mayor of Shawville Sandra Murray, MRC warden Jane Toller and the president of the UPA Pontiac Philippe Lamontagne were there as people asked their questions. After a few questions were answered, a local farmer, Scott Stevens, insisted on the importance of a slaughterhouse to his farm business:

This meeting has greatly changed the attitudes and actions of citizens. For the president of the UPA Pontiac Philippe Lamontagne, the arrival of the slaughterhouse will allow agricultural producers to contribute more to the local economy:

MRC Pontiac warden Jane Toller reiterates Mrs. Lamontagne sentiment that this will be good for the local economy:

One of the owners of the slaughterhouse, Alain Lauzon said that they are ready for the construction phase of the project.

The slaughterhouse will recruit employees during the coming weeks, starting in a days. For more information, contact the Campbell’s Bay Local Employment Center at (819) 648-2131.
