The Council of Mayors of the MRC adopted a resolution at the last mayors meeting, in support of the document “The Barrette reform and its effects in the Pontiac”. Council agreed that healthcare in the Pontiac, in the context of the Loi 10 reforms, fails to meet many of the reform’s objectives, including the simplification of access to services and improving the quality of care. The reforms do not take sufficiently into account the cultural, linguistic, local and historical particularities of certain institutions, as well as a better consideration of regional realities and client in long term care and services for the general populations during the decentralization of our region.

The Council also resolved to affirm that the MRC Pontiac agrees with the nine recommendations in the report and asks the Quebec government to take into account the impacts and asks for a re-evaluation of the health care reforms from the province in the Pontiac.

Creation of a special committee on the forest
On the same evening, the Council passed a resolution to mandate Warden Jane Toller to invite forest industry stakeholders to sit on a new special committee on forestry. Committee members be mandated to provide advice and make recommendations on issues related to the recovery of the forestry industry in the Pontiac.
