The Green Party candidate for the Pontiac riding, Shaughn McArthur, announced that he will be paddling 150 km along the Gatineau River to “bring awareness to the threats facing our ecosystems and the living beings that depend on them.”

“The COVID-19 pandemic has shown that we can tackle our biggest challenges when we put our minds to them,” McArthur wrote in a press release. “But as we look around to find our neighbours struggling and our world on fire, it is clear that we need to keep up the pressure and transform the way we set priorities and do politics in Canada and around the world.”

He will be taking off on Sunday August 29 from Maniwaki and is scheduled to arrive in Ottawa on September 6. McArthur has several stops scheduled along his route and invited the public to join him on the river or at one of his meet and greets.

Yesterday (August 15) Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asked the Governor General to dissolve parliament, kicking off a snap election that will have Canadians heading to the polls September 20.
