The police checkpoints in the Outaouais, excepting in Gatineau, will be lifted on May 11th, if the situation surrounding COVID-19 remains stable.

The Deputy Premier of Quebec and Minister of Public Safety, Geneviève Guilbault, announced the gradual reopening of several regions of Quebec in the coming weeks.

However, Guilbault insists that Quebecers must continue to avoid non-essential travel to avoid the spread of the virus between regions.

The Warden of the MRC Pontiac, Jane Toller, has also confirmed that the police checkpoints between the Pontiac and Ontario, notably in Portage-du-Fort and the L’Isle-aux-Allumettes bridges, as well as the one between Quyon and Bristol will be included in these new measures.

The calendar, presented by the government Wednesday afternoon, noted that the regions of Laurentides, Lanaudière, Chaudière-Appalaches and the city of Rouyn-Noranda will be reopened on May 4th. If the situation continues to go well, the roadside checkpoints will be lifted on May 11th in Outaouais (except Gatineau), Abitibi-Témiscamingue, La Tuque and Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean. There will also be the reopening of Bas-Saint-Laurent, Gaspésie, Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Charlevoix and Côte-Nord, under the same conditions on May 18th.

Lifting the checkpoints in Gatineau, Nord-du-Québec, Basse-Côte-Nord, Minganie, Nunavik and Terres-Cries-de-la-Baie-James will be announced later.
