Elimination of the Office of the French Language Services Commissioner: Gilles Bisson’s comments

3 December 2018 à 12:00 am

Last Saturday, according to l’Assemblée de la francophonie de l’Ontario (AFO), more than 14,000 people across the province were out protesting the decision to abolish the Office of French language Services commissioner. It should be noted that the Ontarian French speaking community in Pembroke gathered outside Conservative MP John Yakabuski office.

The Neo-democrat MLA for Timmins and House Leader of the Official Opposition at Queen’s Park, Gilles Bisson, says he does not understand the Conservatives’ strategy, which he says has had to live for many years with the historic burden of having tried to close the Montfort Hospital.

Premier Doug Ford reacted to the controversy in a press release mentioning that Franco-Ontarians have the right to protest but that he was still going ahead with the cuts. Other Franco-Ontarian protests will take place in the coming weeks.

A full interview in French with Gilles Bisson is available here.
