The result of the by-election in the municipality of Ile-du-Grand-Calumet were released last Sunday evening. Alice Meilleur Pieschke beat out former Mayor Irène Nadeau and two former councillors, Jasmin Lemaire and Adrienne Tuergeon. The voter turnout was 34.5%.
Alice Meilleur Pieschke has experience in the municipal field, having worked in a municipality in Abitibi for several years. She said that she believes that the Municipality of Île-du-Grand-Calumet has lots of tourism potential.; She wants to see people in charge of promoting the Lafontaine Islands and she would like to see the establishment of a Municipal campground.
She would also like the municipality to have more resources available for municipal roads.
Mme Meilleur Pieschke will replace former councillor Pierre Dumouchel, who resigned a few months ago.
The results of the vote are as follows:
Alice Meilleur Pieschke 110 votes
Jasmin Lemaire 62 votes
Irene Nadeau 54 votes
Adrienne Turgeon 48 votes
Mme Pieschke should be sworn in the councillor No. 4 seat on Municipal Council by July 25.
