The Pontiac NDP have selected Denise Giroux as their candidate for the second time, following a nomination meeting held yesterday (August 19) in Chelsea.

“Ms. Giroux has spent her career as a lawyer and labour relations officer with one of the largest unions in the federal public service. Throughout her life as a lawyer, trade unionist and activist, she has actively fought for the rights of workers as well as the rights of more vulnerable groups,” a statement from the Pontiac NDP reads.

“It is high time Canada had a truly progressive government. We can create quality jobs. We can create social housing. We can put in place a guaranteed minimum income. For the people of Pontiac, it would make a big difference! We are ready for better,” Giroux stated in a release.

Giroux spoke with CHIP 101.9 today to discuss her candidacy and priorities for the Pontiac. She was critical of the Liberal government’s decision to call a snap election.

She was also critical of the outgoing Pontiac MP Will Amos and his government’s accomplishments since 2015.

Giroux was the candidate in the Pontiac in 2019 and finished in fourth place, with 10.5% of the vote. She will be present at CHIP 101.9’s candidates debate on August 25 at the Pontiac Conference Centre.
