Curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. comes into effect December 31

Quebec’s Premier, François Legault, announced new public health restrictions at a press conference on December 30. He confirmed that a curfew will be in effect from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., starting tomorrow (December 31), with fines for non-compliance ranging from $1,000 to $6,000. Essential workers will need permission from their employer to travel.

Closure of dining rooms, places of worship and suspension of indoor sporting activities
Legault announced several other measures, including the closure of indoor dining. Restaurants can continue to offer take out and delivery.

Stores will close on Sundays, with certain establishments such as convenience stores, gas stations and pharmacies exempted.

All places of worship are also closed, with the exception of funerals, which must however be limited to 25 people. CHIP 101.9 will present Mass every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. live from St-Pierre Parish. Indoor sports activities are also suspended, unless the activity is among members of the same family.

Back to class: not before January 17th
The start of the school year is postponed until January 17 everywhere in Quebec. The government invites institutions that can to continue learning online before returning to in-person. CEGEPs and universities will also be closed until January 17. The Minister of Education is holding a press conference in the coming days concerning CEGEPs and universities and also for primary and secondary schools. Daycares will remain open, but daycare services located in schools will be open only to essential workers.

Ban on private gatherings
Private gatherings are now prohibited. Only the occupants of the same residence may be under the same roof. A single person can, however, join a family bubble.
