A group of citizens of Île-du-Grand-Calumet organized a ’drive by protest’ in front of the municipal office and also in front of the home of Mayor Serge Newberry on Saturday. Even though Mayor Newberry has still not offered his version of the facts in connection with the incident he is accused of by Councilor Réjean Meilleur, one of the demonstrators, Mélanie Dumouchel, indicated that the they want the departure of the mayor and ask the members of the council to proceed with a vote of no confidence.
Protesters also said they wanted all council members to take a stand on this. Note that during the demonstration, the Sûreté du Québec were on site.
