Carl Mayer running for a third term in Alleyn-et-Cawood

29 October 2021 à 12:00 am

Mayor Carl Mayer is seeking his third mandate at the head of Alleyn-et-Cawood’s council. Mayer has resided in the small municipality for all his 58 years, and served as a councillor for more than 20 years before becoming mayor for the past eight. Like 2017, he will face off in this election against former mayor Joseph Squitti, whom he beat four years ago with 54% of the vote.

Mayer said that he’s running again because he enjoys the work and added that he’d like to continue to keep taxes down because of the number of seniors in the community that live on fixed incomes.

When asked about council’s accomplishments over the past term, Mayer said that this year alone, they used $600,000 from their share of gas tax revenues to put around 1,800 loads of gravel on the community’s roads. He also spoke highly of the children’s camp that they hosted in the summer.

Mayer said that if he’s elected for another term, he would continue to work towards a splash pad for the local park. He added that since a large portion of the municipality is Crown land, he would work to take over the management some area in order to boost the municipality’s tax base.
