The Chapeau (Isle-aux-Allumettes) Recreational Association (RA) summer day camp has been canceled due to the pandemic.

“It is a decision that we feel is necessary to comply with government regulations as our services would be setup in a community hall and park, which remain closed at this time,” said Association President, Karie Bissonnette to CHIP 101.9. “As a full time registered nurse aswell, I feel that this decision is essential to protect our community and vulnerable populations to help control the spread of COVID-19.,” she added.

In addition to the cancellation of the day camp, soccer and baseball programs were also canceled due to the pandemic, as well as the truck pull event and other events that were to be held in the municipality in the summer, including the Island Fest.

The Chapeau Recreational Association is still awaiting instructions regarding a possible reopening of the parks and fields managed by the organization. Until such an announcement is made, the premises must be maintained.

“We have recieved approval from the government and funding for one summer student in order to keep the play structures and RA grounds maintained should we get permission to re-open our park in the summer,” added. Ms. Bissonnette. The job offer was posted via the Chapeau RA- Facebook group.

Parents with questions regarding the cancellation of the day camp can contact the Association at chapeaura gmail.com.
