André Fortin, Member of National Assembly for Pontiac, released a press release saying he was pleased to have been among the members of the National Assembly on June 16 to unanimously pass Bill 132, by which the Government of Québec took the leadership role in Canada for the protection of wetlands, lakes and rivers. A news release states that this bill makes Quebec the only legislation in Canada to have a law that not only provides a legal protection status for wetlands and water ways but enshrines it in a “zero net loss” framework.

The release argues that the new Wetlands and Water Conservation Act introduces a new, modern, clear, predictable and optimized regiment to conserve wetlands and lakes and rivers. It will allow André Fortin to reduce delays and streamline the project authorization processes, taking into account the environmental risks they pose.
