Beware of roadside fraudsters

Beware of roadside fraudsters

11 June 2020 à 12:00 am

The Public Security Service of the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais warns “good Samaritans” who would like to help citizens parked by the road who claim to be out of gas.

This is a scheme known to the police and used by fraudsters to extract money from them.

Their way of proceeding is very simple: they park at the roadside and ask citizens to stop there. Once the citizen is immobilized, the fraudsters claim to have run out of gas. When the citizen offers to take them back to a gas station or to bring them gas, they refuse and simply ask the good Samaritans for money in exchange for jewelry of no value.

Recently, the police officers of the MRC des Collines noted the presence of these individuals on their territory:

– May 16 on the Main road, in Val-desMonts;

– May 17 on route 148, in the Pontiac;

– and on May 28 on Chemin Fillion, at L’Ange Gardien.

Anyone who sees this type of incident is asked to contact the Service Call Center at 819-459-9911.
