The Quebec Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks, in collaboration with the Société de protection des forêts contre le feu (SOPFEU), has decided to lift the ban on open fires which had been in effect since May 17. You can once again have an open fire outside. When doing so always take the necessary measures to prevent forest fires.

According to SOPFEU, spring conditions are conducive to outbreaks of fires along the forest’s edge and near municipalities. Dead leaves, dry grass and branches on the ground causes rapid and frequent changes in the fire risk. They dry quickly and become very flammable. Composting and green waste collection remain the best options for disposing of garbage collected during spring cleanups. Real-time information on the risks of forest fires is available via SOPFEU’s mobile app or at www.sopfeu.qc.ca.
