Back to the meeting of the MRC Pontiac Council

23 March 2018 à 12:00 am

The council of mayors of the MRC Pontiac met last Wednesday night. A dozen residents attended the meeting open to the public and among the various topics discussed at this meeting was the forestry industry. The owner of the Jovalco plant located in Litchfield, Gaétan Turgeon, took the floor to denounce the current situation in which he finds himself and also to denounce some aspects of the work the MRC has been doing. Here is some audio footage of his complaints:

Gaétan Turgeon also spoke about a proposal he made to the MRC to get the funding. He says he needs to actually launch the company to a larger market.

Following the meeting, Jane Toller provided more information regarding Jovalco’s funding, she added that some administrative requirements have not yet been fulfilled by Jovalco.

A first nations group also made a complaint against the current economic situation and threatening to take action against the government. A meeting was held last Monday evening to present the objectives of a project and also present a petition, which was distributed throughout the territory. Ronnie Godin, spokesperson for the group, made a presentation at the mayors’ meeting to talk about it, but the discussion quickly got heated. Jane Toller was forced to bring order to the meeting.

In addition, during the meeting, there was no comment on the $ 170,000 defrauded from the MRC Pontiac since legal proceedings are in progress. Jane Toller says we still have more details about the exact amount stolen:

Jane Toller was quick to ensure that all of this stolen money will be distributed to the various municipalities since the RPGL accounting firm has refunded the entire amount to the MRC.

With regard to the alleged culprit, Colette Morrisette was released on a promise to appear at the Gatineau Courthouse on April 20. For more updates on the meeting, stay tuned for CHIP 101.9.
