Altercation in Ste-Cécile-de-Masham over wearing a mask

12 August 2020 à 12:00 am

An altercation occurred between two people in the area of Ste-Cécile-de-Masham in La Pêche, on August 8, concerning the compulsory wearing of a mask, requiring police intervention.

The MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais Public Security Department confirmed that at the time of the incident, one of the two people was allegedly assaulted. A formal complaint has been filed with police officers from the Public Security Service and an indictment will be submitted in the coming hours to the Director of Penal and Criminal Prosecutions of Gatineau.

Remember that the compulsory wearing of a mask has been in effect since July 18, 2020, according to the provisions of the decree issued by the public health authorities of Quebec.

Public Security also wishes to inform that this situation is taken “very seriously” and that “the population will always be treated with respect, without any discrimination, and this regardless of the ethnic origins of the people involved”. This statement sent to the media on Tuesday evening was made because of false information circulating on social networks, in particular on Twitter, namely that the police had refused until this day to treat this file with any seriousness and respect required.
