56-year-old man drowns in boating accident

2 August 2017 à 12:00 am

There was much information and reactions over the death of a resident of the municipality of Pontiac, with roots in Fort-Coulonge, 56-year-old Melvin Larose, who drowned last Saturday at 9:00 am on a fishing trip to Ramsay Lake. At the time the boat capsized, the victim was not wearing a flotation vest, which was still present in the boat.

At the moment, investigators say that the accident was caused by a combination of factors such as engine power, the size, and weight in the craft combined with a how it was manoeuvred and the fact that victim was not wearing a life jacket. Alcohol is not considered a factor.

This was the second drowning to occur in the MRC des Collines in 2017. The Sûreté du Québec was requested to facilitate the search.
