This year, the Canadian Summer Jobs Program allowed 151 small businesses, non-for-profit organizations and municipalities to hire 228 young people across the Outaouais region.

An example of the program was notably highlighted by Ginger Finan, the owner of the Gelam Riding Stables in Clarendon. During a press conference on Wednesday, Finan spoke about a young girl from the municipality of L’Ile-du-Grand-Calumet, who hopes to be the next Veterinarian in the Pontiac.

This year’s investment in the Pontiac totaled $893 009 and allowed youth to be hired in Gatineau, the MRC Vallée-de-la-Gatineau, the MRC Pontiac and the MRC des Collines de l’Outaouais.

According to a press release issued by the Member of Parliament for the Pontiac, William Amos, due to the circumstances of the COVID-19 Pandemic, ”the government’s decision to fund 100% of these Canada Summer Jobs for municipalities, small businesses and non-profits has provided a real boost to the regional economy and was more important than ever before.”
